Research has shown that online speech therapy works just as well as in person for many patients and conditions, and in some cases even better! Check out the link in my resources tab to learn more.
However, many families still prefer in-person treatment, especially for children who don't attend well to a screen. I provide in-home therapy for children in Cedar Park, Leander, and some surrounding neighborhoods.
Online therapy can be appropriate for anyone. Some children are able to participate directly with screen-based activities while others might require more creativity. If your child is unable to participate directly, I provide parent coaching where you learn to become the therapist. This is especially helpful for young children who research shows learn best from their primary caregivers.
I am able to work with students with a variety of conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome and other genetic conditions in order to treat speech and language deficits. At this time, I am not treating the following conditions: voice disorders, feeding and swallowing disorders, and orofacial myofunctional disorders.
You can participate in therapy sessions with a desktop or laptop computer or even an iPad. Although it is possible to participate via smartphone, many children may not be able to engage with the activities as well on a very small screen. You will also need a reliable and secure internet connection (not a public connection) with download speeds of at least 3 Mbps. A headset is typically not necessary unless there are many distractions in your home.
However, if we are using a parent coaching model, a smartphone with earbuds can deliver the most effective intervention.
Therapy sessions are $65 for 30 minutes for online therapy or $95 for 30 minutes of in-person therapy.
Evaluations are $165 for online and $195 for in-person. They are typically 60-90 minutes long.
At this time, I offer private pay only. I plan to expand to accept certain insurance plans as my practice grows.
I can provide you with a superbill at the end of each month to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits.
I accept credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA. Payment is due at the time of service delivery.
During the first session, I will evaluate your child to determine areas of strength and areas of need. I use a combination of formal assessment tools, informal testing, caregiver questionnaires, language samples, and/or play samples. Based on the results and your family's needs, we will work together to come up with goals to improve your child's communication skills.
If you already have an evaluation that was completed within a year, you may not need another one. In this case, we will review the results, past and current treatment, and current concerns.
During a therapy session, I'll use evidence-based methods to motivate your child to communicate. I use both developmental and behavioral strategies to target the goals we came up with during the evaluation. Caregivers are encouraged to participate and learn how to incorporate the strategies I use into their daily routines.
A caregiver needs to be present for the entire duration of each session. Younger children will usually need more direct support than older children during online sessions. It is critical for caregivers to learn strategies and activities to help their child meet their goals and to provide carryover practice throughout the week.
I use a HIPAA compliant platform and never share your child's personal or medical information with anyone except their doctor, the insurance company when necessary, and you. Sessions are not recorded.
